With several advantages, such as fast deployment and self-organization, Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) are suitable for applications involved in tactical battlefield and civilian emergency communications. However, due to their special form of organization, many protocols used in networks with pre-configured and central-controlled infrastructure, cannot be directly applied to Mobile Ad-hoc Networks. Thus protocols need to be carefully designed for this kind of networks. Among them, mobility management algorithms are the main difficulties of design and research on Ad hoc networks. When design the mobility management for MANETs, the special characters and several limitations of MANETs should be considered. This dissertation mainly focuses on the key techniques and algorithms involved in mobility management protocols of MANETs based on MIPv6,expecting to transplant the standard MIPv6 protocols into the MANETs.0n the foundation of implementing the function of the standard MIPv6,overhead problems should be improved in the MANETs, making the network uninterrupted, stable and efficient. On the other side, wireless and mobility are closely bounded up. The MIPv6 protocol suggested freshly which is tight coupled with the IPv6 has already become the basic resolvent for the supporting of the node mobility in the future and the key technique for the next generation networks. Based on the MIPv6 algorithm, this dissertation proposes the mobility management based on MIPv6 in the hierarchical Ad hoc networks, which combines the algorithm of MIPv6 with the character of the MANETs, in order to provide the mechanism for the mobility detection and binding in the multi-hop network environment. Meanwhile, to further improve the overhead problem of algorithm, MPR mechanism and MAP mechanism are introduced, by means of reducing the number of nodes which transmit packets. This can improve stability and adaptability of the network as well. This thesis elucidates and analyses the key techniques and rules of the mobility management based on MIPv6 in the hierarchical Ad hoc networks, and introduces its simulation modeling of the integrated system infrastructure and each function modules. Through the systematic simulation in the performance of switch time delay, average protocol overhead, packet delivery rate, and etc, the key techniques and algorithms are testified and can provide reference for practical system design and application. Simulation results show that, the system can implement mobility detection and binding based on MIPv6 n the hierarchical Ad hoc networks as the multi-hop network environment. Meanwhile, compared to a simple mechanism, the mechanism based on MPR and MAP can remarkably improve the overhead problem.
