The high performance DC-DC power management ICs enjoy wide market share in recent years. To satisfy the power supply requirements of the low power portable electronic devices and multi-power standard electronic devices, a PSM mode positive/negative dual voltage continuously adjustable charge pump DC/DC converter IC is proposed in the thesis based on the studies of the existing domestic and foreign DC/DC dominate system architecture and modulation mode. The IC is implemented by 0.5μm CMOS process with other functional blocks including under voltage lockout, over temperature protection, soft start, error detector, etc. and only a few external parts are need for complete switch power conversion system, which is appropriate for the light load portable device application. The switch power system utilize the IC proposed with dual power supply exhibits the advantages of wide supply&output voltage range, accurate output voltage, good dynamic behave, low static power loss and high conversion efficiency.The thesis firstly analyzed the advantage of different system architecture and modulation mode and made selection according the design requirement. The charge pump and PSM modulation are chosen to meet the application requirement.The IC is divided into controller, driver, protector, reference and oscillator following the pin definition and make sub block specification at the system architecture design level, which is followed by the sub block circuit design at MOSFET level and functional simulation to optimize the parameter.Two typical application circuits are provided and verified by Hspice at the end of the thesis, whose results indicate that the charge pump controller IC proposed in the thesis perfectly meets power requirement of the existing portable device, the specification is as below: dual power supply source available, with the wide controller input voltage ranges from 2.7V~5.5V; the maximum power input voltage goes up to 13V, conversion efficiency goes up to 92%; switch frequency is 250kHz; the startup delay between two output pins is approximately 20ms; 16ms for soft start; and the allowable input voltage range is -30V~30V; the output ripple is less than±1%.
