Media streaming is becoming the mainly driving force for future broadband network applications. In a traditional client-server streaming system, the server often becomes the bottleneck due to the high bandwidth and long duration of multimedia streams, how to distribute streaming media content to a large number of hosts in a scalable way has become the key issue of multimedia research area in the last decade. So the traditional server based on C/S mode, including its bandwidth and itself, didn't satisfy the request of client, which become the bottleneck of multimedia system. For the sake of the cancellation bottleneck problem, a better method is to turn its service asunder, and every note of system can not enjoy a service, but also provide the service—this is the strategy of the P2P (Peer to Peer). The emergence of P2P and CDN (Content Delivery Network) makes MoD (Multimedia on Demand) possible in the wide network. All users act as both the consumers and the providers, which will eliminate the bottleneck of traditional MOD systems and remove the heavy task to provide multimedia resource. The kernel of CDN is to deliver contents of ICP (Internet Content Provider) to service nodes which are close to users quickly and efficiently. Thanks to the help of CDN, users can visit the nearest service nodes with prompt response. Furthermore, CDN reduces the burden of original sites and improves the utilization of equipments and networks. Compared to CDN, P2P is a completely different way of delivering contents. The kernel of P2P is to make use of users'resources to deliver contents in the way of"peer to peer". This is totally different from the traditional C/S model. P2P is designed to be"no center"and exchange contents among multi-peers without servers. The reliability and manageability of CDN and the scalability of P2P are supplementing each other. The main goal of this paper focuses on the study of how to adjust the existing proxy resources to transmit streaming media content quite effectively through Internet. The main contents of the dissertation are as follows:1. To analyze technologies which have relationship with CDN and P2P in depth;2. Build new hybrid architecture, it combine P2P and CDN's advantages. 3. We analyze application of MVC (Multiple Description Video Coding) in CDN system.4. Take the variable-sized segment method as a master line to brand two relatively independent stages together and then give a synthetic study, it not only promises the byte-hit-ratio and the start-up delay of terminal clients, but also could reduces the proxy jitter. Thus, it provides reliable Qos guarantee to the services of streaming media content delivery network.5. All algorithms in the dissertation are simulated in appropriate ways.
