With the rapid development of network application, the demands for network capacity and quality of service is much higher than before. Fiber transmission technology makes it feasible to provide high bandwidth of network. Especially the Wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) technology has provided a best choice to better use the huge bandwidth of fiber link. Optical burst switching (OBS) is proposed by Chunming Qiao and J. S.Turner which combines the benifit of optical circuit switching (OCS) and optical packet switching (OPS). It is an ideal solution of All-optical network. It can be predicted that OBS will become an ideal choice for the Next Generation of Network (NGN).There are two function points in OBS networks, firstly in the Edge Node of OBS networks, the Node it is mainly used to assembly IP packets into Burst; Secondly in the Core Node of OBS networks, the Node is mainly used to schedule optical channel for Burst. As Burst is transparently transported in optical region through OBS networks without E/O or O/E conversion, Althogh the speed is much higher than tranditional IP electronic networks, on the other hand it is not smart to handle optical Burst as IP networks, especially it is unable to buffer optical Burst is OBS function Node nowadays.This paper introduces the principle of OBS, network topology architectures and implementation of module functions, as well as a detailed analysis of the key technologies in OBS such as burst assembly and congestion control. Based on the existing researches, We condonducted some new research on network flow behavior and TCP congestion control technologies, Firstly we discussed the self-similar nature of network flowing, then we used wavelet tools to predict the network flow and proposes a new congestion technology named three-stage-indication. The simulation results based on Swarm shows that the technologies adopted in this paper achieve better network performance.Chapter one introduces the developments of optical network together with the structure of this paper in the end of it. Chapter two discusses the basic principle of OBS, control protocols and algorithm implementation and the functions of core and edge nodes. The issuses of traditional TCP congestion method deployed on OBS are mainly analysed in chapter three. In chapter four we propose a new three-stage-indication together with the simulation results which shows that the technologies proposed in this paper achive a better network performance than traditional ones. Conclusion and forcasting comes last.
