Eight millimeter wave linear frequency modulated continuous wave (LFMCW)radar integrates the advantages of millimeter radar and linear frequency modulated radar, thus it has great potential applications in precision guidance and automobile anti-collision systems and so on.In this paper, the engineering and technological researeh of millimeter wave radar detection system is presented, argumentation of scheme and the principle of LFMCW radar system are discussed. This paper analyzes the performance specification of the radar system and accomplishes the index distribution. Then, the relation between the frequency modulation linearity and the radar range resolution of LFMCW radar and a correction algorithm of linearity for LFMCW signal are discussed in detail. Based on the algorithm, the software and hardware of linearization system is designed and a closed-loop linearization scheme using upconversion delay-discrimination method as key techniqiue is used to develop a eight millimeter wave LFMCW high linearity signal source. The linearity is improved to be up to 2.5/10000 experimentally.A T/R front-end is developed by the LFMCW high linearity signal source and the principle model of eight millimeter wave LFMCW radar is completed. The experimental results are agreed with the theoretic results, indicating that the scheme demonstration and performance evaluation of the LFMCW radar system are completed correctly. It is of great value to the subsequent development of millimeter wave LFMCW radar.
