Substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) is a novel transmission line proposed in recent years.It takes the advantages of rectangular waveguide and microstrip line, and has aroused a lotof attention to its theoretical analyses and engineering applications.In the referred publications, the numerical methods with high accuracy were usuallyused to carry out the investigation of the propagation characteristics of the SIW; however,they are in general complicated. In our work, the numerical method is incorporated withthe traditional electromagnetic theory of the transmission lines, resulting in some simpleformulas of the SIW, with sufficient accuracy in practical engineering. The conductor lossformula for the SIW is obtained and verified by HFSS numerical simulations. The leakageloss out of SIW is also investigated; the formula is derived based on the analytical MoM.In addition, the SIW cavity is investigated in this work, the formula of resonant frequencyand Q are derived, good agreement can be observed from the numerical simulations andexperiments of the fabricated prototype of SIW cavity. One Square-SIW cavity dual-modefilter is designed and fabricated; the experiment shows good agreement with simulation,indicating the validity of the proposed theory of SIW cavity. |
