As an important part of modern wireless communication systems, antennas, just the same as the tendency of electronic sciences and technologies, are boomingly developing towards miniaturization, high performance and high integration density. Substrate integrated waveguide(SIW) cavity backed slot antenna is a newly developing form of antennas. Except for its characteristics of small volume and light weight on structures, low cost and high Q factor on circuits, low loss and easy integration with planar circuits on manufactures, it also possesses the inherent characteristics of high performance, high power capacity, high heat stability, and stability of structure inherited from traditional metal waveguide slot antenna. Consequently, the basic application research of miniaturized SIW cavity backed slot antenna has not only important theoretical value but also practical engineering significance to achieve modern microwave and millimeter wave passive devices and active circuits with high performance and high integration density.This thesis regards rectangular SIW, hexangular SIW and rectangular half mode substrate integrated waveguide(HMSIW) cavity backed slot antennas as study objects, studying their miniaturization technologies, technologies to increase gain through high order TE or quasi TM resonant mode in SIW cavity as well as configuration of multi slots, and technologies to expand impedance matching bandwidth through rectangular HMSIW resonant cavity and hybrid resonant mode combining 110 HTE with 210HTE in it.Firstly, some design bases and technologies of SIW cavity backed slot antenna are introduced in the thesis. Starting from the brief introduction of primary characteristic parameters of antenna, the basic principles and design methods of traditional resonant metal waveguide slot antenna are analyzed with mathematical derivations. Basic theories of SIW as well as the resonant characteristics of its various kinds of cavities are briefly reviewed, all of the above establish theoretical and technical foundation for the design of miniaturized SIW cavity backed slot antenna.Secondly, two types of miniaturized high order TE resonant mode rectangular SIW cavity backed slot antennas are achieved. By these two types of antennas, radiation principles of SIW cavity backed slot antennas are preliminarily analyzed, miniaturization is realized by using grounded co-planar waveguide(GCPW), and gain increased is achieved through high order TE resonant mode in rectangular SIW cavity and configuration of multi slots.Thirdly, three types of miniaturized quasi TM resonant mode hexangular SIW cavity backed slot antennas are achieved. Miniaturization is realized by bended slots, perturbation metalized via holes array contributes to stimulate high order resonant mode and suppress interference resonant mode, and gain increased is achieved through high order quasi TM resonant mode in hexangular SIW cavity and configuration of multi slots.Finally, two types of miniaturized 110 HTE and 210HTE hybrid resonant mode rectangular HMSIW cavity backed slot antennas are achieved. Miniaturization is realized by using HMSIW resonant cavity, impedance matching bandwidth of the antennas are expanded through rectangular HMSIW cavity of low Q factor and hybrid resonant mode combining 110 HTE with 210HTE in it.
