Short-range radar that works on non-atmospheric window has a good prospect, because of its better secrecy and anti-jamming characteristic. The millimeter wave (MMW) radar has been widely used in fuse, end guidance and so on. In addition, targets' RCS measurement in near field is different from measurement in far field. So it is great important to study targets 'reflecting (scattering) characteristic in near field.MMW propagation effects and performance calculation of MMW radar are analyzed in detail in this paper firstly, including the anti-jamming ability. Then the paper takes the toothed-FM radar as an example, elaborating FMCW radar' s the principle of range finding, the parameters choice and the analysis of error. In the end, the paper analyzes the measured results of the developed 5mm FMCW radar. The goal of this paper is providing the basis for the related defense project.
