People has paid close attention on DEM since 1950s and has widely used in surveying,civilian engineering, geology, mine engineering , landscape engineering, road design, control flood , agriculture, city building plan , military affairs engineering, flying instrument, and etc.The theory and technology of the DEM include the technique and means of gathering, designing data structure , making model , reseach and putting into practice arithmetic of interpolation , 3D visualization , estimating accuracy , quality control about the DEM, and interrelated computer technology , etc. So far , the above-mentioned theory and technology about the DEM are researched continually.This paper makes the survey to visualization technology quickly and really of three-dimensional terrain model on the basis of consulting relevant documents. It is mainly to present a fast algorithm for generating DEM with disordered height data .The techniques of data blocking and data searching are discussed and a heuristicbased adaptive approach of data blocking is recommended. On the condition , It also proposed a model of processing DEM data multiresolutionally with the methods of wavelet. All the result will realize the purpose of increasing the scene frame rate.Finally based on the theoretic research accomplishment of this paper combined related program, the author developed a DEM creating and simplification system using OpenGL technology in Visual C++ development environment.
