Optical filters are wildly used in the optical communication system and the sensor system, but the transmitting effect of the traditional interfere filters is limited by the coating material. One possibility to select a wavelength interval out of a broad spectrum is given by the Christiansen filter, and the physical effect was first observed by Christiansen in last century. This kind of filter finds applications in near infrared, visible and UV wavelengths range. The transmittance function of the Christiansen filter is decided by the infraction rate of its material, and the facture factor has no influence. It is impossible to take control of the transmittance function in the traditional Christiansen filter, but the limitation is broken in the advanced Christiansen filter which has a lens instead of the solid powders. This essay made some progress in the advanced Christiansen filter. First, the history of the Christiansen filter is reviewed, and the theory of the Christiansen effect is introduced. Then based on the synthesis theory of the advanced Christiansen filter, the parameters of the stepped lens are introduced. The transmittance functions including the most flat, Gaussian, and Sinc etc. are discussed. To prove the correct lens function and right filter transmission function, finally this essay did some simulation work about the stepped advanced Christiansen filter with ASAP(Advance System Analysis Program),and the study about the energy focus, phase change problem, etc. is concerned. The stepped advanced Christiansen filter designed by the essay has periodic transmittance function which can be controlled accurately, and its FWHW is 2 nm.
