One possibility to select a wavelength interval out of a broad spectrum is given by the Christiansen filter. This physical effect was first observed in 1884 by Christiansen. This kind of filter has applications in UV wavelengths range where the choice of transparent coating materials is so limited that the construction of high transmission narrow-bandwidth interference filters is difficult. In this thesis, the Christiansen filter is a lentoid filter. If the choice of the material is suitable, then this kind of filter can filtrate the UV light. In this thesis, this new kind of Christiansen filter is discussed and designed. The theory of this new kind of Christiansen filter is discussed, using the wave optics and diffraction theory under the thin lens approximation. The Inverse diffraction is calculated. The mathematic models of many advanced Christiansen filters are build. Smooth odd and even cylindrical lenses are analysed respectively. The configuration of many kinds of optic filters are introduced.Based on the simulation and analysis, the infection of the dimension of the aperture to the filter is discussed. Further more, the power transmission spectra is optimized to obtain the best effect of this filter.Based on the analysis of the transmission spectra and other filter design parameters, a second order Sine filter with the 3dB bandwidth less than 2nm was obtained. Christiansen filter has many advantages, it will has applications in interspace communications.
