Combining mobile communications with computer networking, the Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) has some characteristics such as distributed, self-organizing, self-configuring, self-managing, and so on. Without the support of fixed infrastructures, it can afford a communication platform if the existing networking infrastructure can't be available. So it expands the performance of mobile communication networks and can be used widely in emergency control, tactical communication, and meetings or conventions. In MANETs, routing is a key technology and it is used to search routes for data packets and transmit it to destination. As the key components of routing technology, routing algorithms and protocols have direct effect on network performances such as the end to end delay, the throughput and the success delivery ratio. Because MANETs have characteristics such as multihop, dynamic topology, and limited resources as well as characteristics such as large scale network or high dynamic nodes, it is a challenge to design hierarchical routing algorithms and protocols for large scale MANETs. Based on a MANET with group mobility model, this dissertation analyzes and modifies traditional LANMAR routing protocol, it also design the framework of the MANET, which comprises channel-setting and address-setting. A scalable routing protocol named Designated Clusterhead LANMAR is presented. Through simulating and comparing DC-LANMAR and LANMAR routing protocol, we have proved the validity of DC-LANMAR routing protocol. The referenced algorithm and models are provided for the design of the real system.
