With the development of mobile device, more and more applications are enabled on mobile devices. Except for wireless connection, multimedia application including music playing, video replay, voice recording are also available for mobile devices.Many kinds of architecture can be applied in implementation of these multimedia applications. As the digital multimedia compression developing, multimedia application reach a higher level, more and more audio and video compression format are applied into the mobile device. These provide mobile device better quality of audio, video, and more alternate choices.Macronix has been recognized as a leading provider of high quality 64-polyphony sound generators for mobile phone applications. This is evident from more than ten customers who have built these products successfully into their mobile phones. Their end customers are happily using these audio features on their mobile phones now. This family of Mobile Audio Platform (MAP) is based on advanced DSP technology to develop varieties of audio devices, especially in mobile phone applications. MAP is capable of running MP3 decoder algorithm with very low power consumption. And it provides many interfaces and control unit for the peripheral device.These will significantly ease the developing of the application on mobile devices.This thesis will analyze the basis architecture and the development of the mobile audio encoding/decoding system, and will design a mobile audio encoding/decoding architecture based on A168 micro processor from Macronix Electronics, and implement the MP3 encoding function as an example. The work we have done is following:1. Analyze the most popular architecture for encoding/decoding system, and design system architecture for our encoding/decoding system.2. Analyze the most popular audio compression format, and made a decision on what our encoder support.3. Analyze the MP3 encoding algorithm. Do modification and optimization according to our hardware.4. Design the fix-point computation solution for MP3 encoder 5. Test the implementation of our MP3 encoding system. And do result analysis In consider of the cost, in order to implement real-time MP3 encoder on low-cost hardware, we need to sacrifice the encoding quality. In this thesis, we give a design and its implementation of the MP3 encoder based on fix-point DSP, which gives a high quality MP3 real time encoder on low-cost DSP. It has practical significance to other design on low-cost hardware.Through the tests, the system turns out to have the ability to encoding MP3 correctly, and can meet the performance of real-time encoding requirement.
