A modulation and demodulation method that can reduce the modulation complexity of the continuous phase modulation (CPM) receiver is presented in this paper, which aims at overcoming the difficulty of the CPM receiver. Its background, working principle, construction design, experimental evaluation and data analyzing is also discussed.Radio spectrum is a very precious and limited resource, how to use it efficiently and raise its efficiency is one of an important question in Digital Communication research. CPM has very perfect spectrum efficiency and very good power efficiency. In addition, CPM is a continuous envelope modulation, which can use non-linear amplifier. These advantages make CPM useful for the band-limited wireless communication. As the lack of the radio spectrum day by day, this technique becomes more and more important. The development of the CPM in and out of the nation is introduced in this paper, the sorts of the CPM technology are presented, and the advantages and the disadvantages of these sorts are analyzed. An optimum CPM receiver and a suboptimum receiver based upon the usage and the background is raised. The optimum CPM receiver can reduce the difficulty of the receiver structure; the suboptimum receiver can reduce the difficulty of the receiver structure and reduce the operation quantity. The basic principle of the receivers—Laurent arithmetic is discussed in this paper. Also the error of the suboptimum receiver is pmproved. Finally, the simulation evaluation is presented and analyzed. It can be proved by the simulation evaluation that the optimum CPM receiver can reduce the difficulty of the receiver structure by keeping the SNR performance; the suboptimum receiver can reduce the difficulty of the receiver structure and reduce the operation quantity at the cost of a little degradation of SNR performance.
