Continuous wave magnetron used for microwave oven (hereinafter all of them called magnetron for short), the annual output of the product all over the world is about several ten millions, the major manufacturers in the world are Panasonic, Toshiba, LG and Witol. In the intense market competition, the magnetron technology development, life expectancy has greatly increased and the cost has been declining. These two years, as the soaring prices of the main material of the magnetron such as copper, molybdenum, steel and other main metal materials, how to guarantee the basic parameters of the magnetron, and save the use of raw materials, reduce costs at the same time, has become the main problem which the manufacturers focus on.In order to occupy the market with the advantage of the prices sequentially in the intense market competition, Guangdong Witol developed a new concept at the end of the 2004, that was to reduce costs from the structure of the magnetron itself, and built a magnetron research project of a low-cost magnetron structure with the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. The beginning of the study is the structure of the magnetron itself. With the help of magnetron theory and simulation code develop the magnetron product which is low-cost, efficient and suitable for mass production in a short period. The paper's main point is:1. The effects of end-space on the magnetron performance are investigated in detail. This paper simulated the magnetron resonant system with Ansoft HFSS, and computed theπ-mode spectrum by changing the dimensions of end spaces. By comparing the simulated result of mode spectrum, it is easy to find that the magnetron mode spectrum is not appreciably affected by the dimensions of end-space, though the resonant frequency is increasing and the Q0-factor is decreasing. Thus it is possible for raw material cost down via decreasing end-space dimension.2. The coupling theory of magnetron output is investigated in detail. The paper simulates the coupling antenna, and analyses the effects of antenna's relative location on magnetron performance with CST Microwave Studio 5.1. And the experimental agreement is good from cold test result of resonator with a coupling antenna.3. The 8-vane cavity resonant system is researched, and it is very different from conventional magnetron, which is one of the practical ways to cost down and is the breakthrough of researching for continuous magnetron.4. A small diametrical anode-shell magnetron is researched from frequency modulation of pulse magnetron by using Magic3D software, which is a special structural anode vane with gaps. The computed model corresponds closely to the experimental. And we can know that the simulation is very useful for our new products research.5. This article develops the smallest end-space magnetron product which is low-cost, high efficient, the smallest volume and suitable for enterprise's mass production in a short period of time, and establish many computer simulation platform for continuous magnetron research.
