Pulse/pattern generator has been widely used as a general purpose signal source in modern measuring and controlling fields. To meet the demands of fixed measuring conditions, the instrument can produce kinds of standard pulse waveforms and programmable user data. Pulse adjusting stage is a key component of the pulse/pattern generator, which is in charge with modifying and controlling the rising edge and trailing edge for output pulse.Based on the importance of pulse/pattern research, the work of this dissertation comes from the project "high speed pulse/pattern generator" which is taken on by the University of Electronics and Science of Technology of China. The dissertation mainly focuses on the pulse edge control technology to attain at most 80ps pulse rise/fall time and adjust the edge time from 1ns to 1us. Some pulse shaping and pulse edge time controlling technologies are analyzed, and a feasible pulse edge shaping and controlling method is given, the detail of circuit design is also discussed in this dissertation.The main work of this dissertation includes:1. Introduces the feature and strong point of high speed pulse/pattern generator,demonstrates the pulse/pattern generator's use in digital test area and its new development.2. Illustrates the importance of pulse rise/fall time analyzes some useful pulse shaping technologies and gives a pulse edge shaping design.3. Demonstrates the principle of pulse rise/fall time adjusting system based on the charging and discharging of constant current source, gives the implementation of 2-stage pulse edge adjusting state circuit4. Discusses the high speed PCB design and EMC problem involved in this project, and the main problems during circuit debugging are listed and analyzed. Some feasible solutions are provided.
