Telecom carriers are trying to adopt internet-based IP network technology as a united platform of next generation network. But as time going by, the imagined multi-service network based IP and MPLS doesn't be implemented genuinely. Nowadays, wide band network being spreading rapidly, there are many wide band users, which makes telecom carriers get profits as while as face with various problems requiring resolved.Ever-increasing users bring on the continually enlarging of network scale, whereas users' contentment level can't be improved along with it. Congestions, viruses, and delays on network all badly baffle the growth of IP services, at the same time new requirements about network transmission quality and service types from users are put forward. Some rising technologies, such as VOIP, IPTV, and 3G and so on, are going to be extended widely, and that they all select IP network as supporting network. However, existing IP MAN (Metropolitan Area Network) can't provide enough support to such services highly requiring real time. Moreover, even if to erect a new IP network to support these services, because of characteristics of IP network, it still couldn't be ensured of transmission quality. Therefore, we need a new mechanism to provide transmission quality assurance for network highly requiring real time. For these reasons, QoS of IP network displays its significance gradually.Deploying on IP network with QoS, which implements port-to-port QoS, can provide different services to various rank users. Simultaneously, it can ensure service qualities for multimedia data flow, such as video flow and audio flow, which require real time highly. So users can enjoy well quality services.There are many subjects in research about IP QoS. IETF has advised some service models and mechanisms to satisfy QoS requirements, typically including: IntServ/RSVP model, DiffServ model, MPLS and Traffic Engineering. On the basis of referring to lots of documents, this paper analyzes and investigates related models and mechanisms in detail. The MAN in Taian is rebuilding and new generation MAN will carry rising telecom services, such as VOIP, IPTV, and MPLS VPN. As an instance, we adopt corresponding QoS deployment on the MAN, and make some performance tests for new equipments and QoS. Finally, we illustrate QoS employment on WAN through test results.
