With the wide application of multimedia technology and the continuous development of semiconductor technology, the multimedia data such as voice, graphic moving picture, text, and video can be collected and processed by special DSP chips. These data can be encoded via certain data compression standards, and stored by large-memory media such as "Flash Memory". So that colored digital video signals and the partnered sound signals can be continuously transmitted with high speed.The video signals in a plane mainly include the head-up-display frame and the outside scene ahead the plane, the data amount of the colored digital video signals of a flying up-down are very large, and thus the demanded memory capacity is too high to be practically met. Therefore, we must compress the on-line collected video data.The aviation video-recoding system is only used to record the real-time dynamic HUD frame and the outside scene ahead the plane. At the same time, the system can applied to record all the communication sound signals transmitted from the communicated controller in the plane during flying. So that video marks and sound-alarm marks are produced while shooting or some important things happened. The system is a new product which can replace the aviation cameras used on the plane.After a simple introduction of the multimedia data compression, this thesis explains coding and encoding flow the MPEG-4 data compression standard, and applies it to design the video and audio recording system in a plane. This thesis had acomplished the total plan of the system program and design, compiled the video compression process software and the related controlling test software, and programmed the system test plan. It had told detaily the acomplish of the video comprssion coding model and the software-test process of the recorder of the system. At last, the thesis had showed the practical value of the system which is better than the traditonal video tape recorder system (VHS), and it had pointed out the improvement and development direction of the system.
