Array signal processing and its application has been one of the focuses in signal processing field. By sampling and processing signal both in time domain and in spatial domain, the information of interest contained in the signal can be exploited fully, thereby interference can be suppressed more effectively, and so the capacity of system can be improved by introducing array signal processing algorithms. In this dissertation, the model and theory of array signal processing are studied. DOA estimation and beamforming technology and their correlated technology were researched deeply, which are the two main aspects in array signal processing field.A classical high resolution direction finding algorithm—MUSIC algorithm, is analyzed, which is also the base of the direction finding algorithm in this dissertation. The reason for the array error forming and array error modeling are introduced. An auto-calibration method of array error in the presence of gain-phase error and mutual coupling is traversed in this dissertation. Two classical beamformimg algorithms—Bartlett beamforming and Capon beamforming, are researched, and their behavior is illustrated by examples. It is also researched that a new method for design of digital beamformer with prescribed main beam width and sidelobe level using uniform linear array, and illustrative example which demonstrates the design of new method is included, showing that the new method has the worth of practice application.Most of proposed methods for direction finding and beamforming in literature are with narrowband assumptions. However, with the development of the communication systems, electron war, etc, more and more wideband signal will be used. So researching the wideband direction finding and beamforming is more and more important. In this dissertation, the CSS algorithm and the RSS algorithm are studied, and a new method for wideband direction finding—brief focusing transform algorithm is analyzed. Lastly, wideband signal beamforming is introduced in brief.
