Automated Fingerprint Identification Technology Research

In this paper, several key problems in the fingerprint identification area were discussed. By using the theory and technology of image processing and pattern recognition, we studied the problems of detecting singular points of fingerprints, classification of fingerprint and fingerprint thinning etc. There are four chapters in this paper. The first chapter is introduction, mainly discussed the biology recognition and the fingerprint identification technology and summarized the problem of the singular point detection and the fingerprint thinning and fingerprint matching methods. The second chapter studied fingerprints singular points detecting. The third chapter is the research in the fingerprint thinning. The fourth chapter studied the fingerprint matching methods. The main contents are as follows:(1) The research for the fingerprint singular points detecting.The singular points are the character often used in the fingerprint classification, if we can detect the singular points exactly, the fingerprint classification will be very easy. But at present, it is a difficult problem to detecting singular points exactly. In this paper, the fingerprint singular points detecting method was studied and analyzed two improved method detailed. Then, the two methods were compared in the performance. The work in this paper has a great significance to the singular point detecting method selecting and the after work.(2) The research for the fingerprint thinning.Fingerprint thinning is making the binary fingerprint image to the one pixel width image. The purpose of the thinning is convenient for detecting minutiae in the following steps. If the thinning result is not good, it will difficult detecting the minutiae exactly. In this paper, several often used thinning problems were analyzed, implemented and compared.(3) The research for the fingerprint matching.Fingerprint matching is the core research content in the automatic fingerprint identification system (AFIS).
