GPRS,named as 2.5G technology, is based on the GSM network to provide ability to perform packet switch and packet transmission.GPRS can provide the point-to-point services with higher speed with in some cases are up to 115kbits.Comparing with GSM platform, GPRS occupy the wireless channel only when there is data to be transferred, and many users can share the same physical channel. Based on IP technology, the core network of GPRS can be connected to Internet easily with a newly added service GGSN.Thus bring the GPRS system the ability to be smoothly developed to 3G network. As a protocol running on application-level, WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) can be adapted to be applied on many different communication platforms, for example the GSM network which has the biggest number of users in the world. But until the appearance of GPRS and WAP2.0,the bottleneck of WAP applications over GSM can not be overcame because of the low speed and complexity of content-translation on the platform. On the other way, the high speed of GPRS and especial its"IP core"brings it much more information security problems than GSM. And because of the limitation of computing and storage on mobile devices, currently used PKI architecture can not be applied to mobile network directly. WPKI is designed to solve those problems with lower resource request. This paper focused on the information security on GPRS system and the solutions to provide security for point to point services on application level. After analyzing a running GPRS platform and WPKI architecture, a solution that combines GPRS with WPKI is designed and its core part is illustrated detailly. After that, the important part of the system is coded and tested (include the RA server and CA server). The testing result proved that the system can perform typical WPKI applications (certificate-request, certificate search, and certificate revocation and certificate announcement) on GPRS platform.
