High-speed Optical Switch Controller Interface Software And Hardware To Achieve

In current technical condition, Optical Burst Switching combines advantages of many other optical switching technologies and will be one of the fastest-developing technologies. And optical switch is a basic and important element in field of optical switching. This paper researches high speed interface between optical switch and its controller in background of Optical Burst Switching, and gives out the realization of interface in both hardware and software.Core node of Optical Burst Switching consists of optical switch and optical switching controller. This paper is to design and implement their high speed interface module. Optical switch consists of optical switching array, tunable wavelength converter and fiber delay line. Common PC is used as optical switching controller which can use application software to implement many kinds of control to optical switch. So this control mode is very universal and flexible. This paper describes the realization about high speed interface module in both hardware and software, while processing a lot of system level testing.First of all, this paper analyzes the scheduling of interface signals and gives out the overall design of high speed interface. Then the realization of hardware module is given . It's shown by schematic and layout pictures. Secondly, the VHDL programming is described. It gives out the block division and their designings. Then it describes USB driver and firmware programming. Particular design is given by several specific program examples. Finally, an application software is completed to test the interface board. The interface board is tested by specific controlling flow. And the testing result indicates its function is correct and reaches the performance of Optical Burst Switching.The design of high speed interface between optical switch and PC controller is rather universal. And the design in this paper exhibits high reference value to the implementation of core node's high speed interface module in Optical Burst Switching.
