The third-generation optical-networking, optical label switching (OLS) can achieve dynamic reconfiguration on a packet-by-packet basis in the optical domain, and it provides an attractive solution for realizing true integration of optical and data networking. The main task of the key functional module of optical switch matrix is to route the packets to the correct destinations. Within the OLS router, the key functional module of optical switch matrix has notable impact on the router's performance.A key functional module of optical switch matrix based on XGM-SOA wavelength conversion and arrayed waveguide grating router (AWGR) is illustrated in detail from the hardware design to the software design in this thesis. The performance of the wavelength conversion is investigated in the thesis. The main work of this project is listed as follows:(1) The key technologies of OLS network including label generation and swapping, optical buffering, high-speed optical switch module are discussed. The mechanism of the module based on tunable wavelength conversion and AWGR is discussed in detail.(2) The hardware including the SOA controller, tunable laser circuit and module controller and display circuit is designed.(3) Micro-controller control system is illustrated in detail. The functions of keypad identification, man-machine conversation interface and the communication protocol between ADuC812 and Agility3205 are discussed.(4) The printed circuit board of the key functional module is fabricated and the performance of the tunable wavelength conversion is investigated: the output wavelength could be tuned from 1528nm to 1563nm. Operating at proper conditions, the output extinction ratio could be higher than 10dB and the conversion efficiency could be higher than 0dB for the whole tuning range.
