FTTH (Fiber To The Home) has been the ideal technical area for which many people have been seeking in the past twenty years. Yet, this technique has not been broadly spread and developed so far due to the limitations of cost, technical aspects, requirement and so forth. However, with the governmental support in policy and the further development in technique, FTTH is coming into another rush time, reinflaming the community of communications. Since new techniques, equipments and network construction plans are emerging day to day, FTTH is considered to be a milestone of the resuscitation of fiber communication, which makes us confidently expect the further development of FTTH in the future years.EPON is a combination of several cutting-age network techniques and frameworks. It adopts the configuration of P2MP and passive fiber transfer manor, providing various of services in Ethernet. According to its points, EPON is thought to be the best solution to FTTH, capable of high-speed access and transfer, integrated data, audio and video data operation, as well as the extension of xDSL and LAN broadwidth access.Founded on the EPON system provided by PASSAVE, this project is specified the configuration of OLT and ONU, by using MAC control chips PAS5001 and PAS6201, and research application of the EPON system.The EPON system is complex. Its' hardware module is included CPU, PAS5001 , some memory,UART and Clock etc. Its' software module is included OMA of the whole networks, MPCP, DBA and so on. The realization of these functions is not only one or two programma. So we need a method to manage the hardware, driver and software. The embedded system that realize some special functions answer for the need of EPON demand, because the embedded system is the high efficiency, realtime, reliability.The embedded systems in OLT is investigated and implemented to control PAS5001 to fulfill the management and maintenance of the EPON network.
