The grid technology is an important information technology that has been widely accepted during recent years.As a big and important progress in the information technology, the grid should finally be an infrastructure—services provided by the grid application service provider, which is called"The Fifth Public Infrastructure"paralleled with telephone, electricity, water and gas service.This paper studies the grid technology and its systematic structure, depicts whole MDG (short for Mobile Data Grid) software module, defines MDG standard communication flow of each module, and provides the methods to implement MDG software module. MDG is the general service platform of data storing, transferring and searching. The data in MDG grid can gain access seamlessly to any MDG hardware or software equipment.The result and innovative point of this paper is that MDG is a new type of applied data grid. The MDG designed in this paper not only takes full advantages of the matured internet protocols (HTTP, FTP, SMTP, etc.), but also elicits a standard communication model particularly used for grid data exchange, and thus improves the quality of the grid services, eliminates data-island on the Internet, improves the re-usability and the flexibility of the data. The design in this paper does not rely on the data grid frame protocol of the abroad, so it can be expanded with great flexibility in its application.The Middle and Small Enterprise Applied Software System based on the MDG in this paper has gained the"Technological Innovation Fund for Middle and Small Enterprises"from The Ministry of Science and Technology of China. Part of the method of the design originated from the project funded by"863 Software Innovation Fund for the Youth"of the Science and Technology Office of Sichuan Province.
