With the falling cost of computer hardware, cluster that has large numbers ofcomputer nodes is universal. The emergence of service deployment technologyfacilitates the installation and configuration for these nodes. And it also makes itpossible on the sharing of resources. For those service deployment systems based onvirtual storage, the subsystem which provides storage resources plays a vital role.Based on this technical background, we designed and implemented Clustered VirtualShared Volume Service (CVSVS) system according to the requirements from servicedeployment system. It can run as part of service deployment system, or run separatelyto provide storage service to similar applications. It exports block-level storagevolumes based on a new internal address mapping algorithm – compound snapshotalgorithm. Such algorithm not only retains all the characteristics of snapshottechnology, but also adds new functional features. Thanks to EVMS's excellentframework, it is used to administer CVSVS volumes. At the same time, in order toenhance availability, the system has also a node expansion layer. This layer conformsmultiple nodes which share the same physical storage equipment, to constitute acluster that can provide logical storage volume services.CVSVS system supplies users with virtual, shared, expandable and high-availablestorage volumes. Meanwhile, for the service deployment systems, CVSVS is easy tobe managed, saving on storage space, and rapid to establish batch of logical volumes. After test of the performance and space utilization, results show a significantimprovement over the existing system.
