First, this thesis introduces the concept of intelligent transportation system. Intelligent transportation system makes use of sophisticated electron and information technology, which is composing of triune and new-style highway traffic system for personnel, highway and vehicle. Intelligent transport system effectively integrate this advanced electron information technology with microprocessor technique, data traffic transfers technique and artificial intelligence, form a kind of real-time, highly active, economic, secure communications and transport system. Intelligent transport system is material representation that modern science and technology means applies for traffic field, that apply itself to abates air-logged road and reduce traffic accident, increase road user's convenience and comfort, representing intending roadway and traffic developmental orientation.This thesis presents a novel theory of single loop detection and make adequate test to proof that the theory is correct and feasible. It spends a minor time for vehicles to across single loop, while the system should response fast and accurately. This system makes use of P18F series microprocessor which has high-powered process ability and large storage space.Validating feasibility of single loop detected, the letterpress puts forward the theory of single loop detected, and via practicable loop measured, further proves this theory is feasible. The time of vehicles across single loop is very fugacious, all of these require that data acquisition system must gather vehicles information fast and exactly, because of this reason, the system is designed based on series of PIC18 microcontroller, series of PIC18 microcontroller have high operating speed and high memory power which completely meet with require that fleetly gather and deal with data.In this system, vehicle detector gathers useful vehicle information, which is transmitted by CAN Bus. CAN Bus's data communication has the characteristic of reliability, real-time and flexibility.
