Waterlogged archaeological wood is viewed as a representative of ancient humanity civilization. As other cultural relic, it is valuable for investigating ancient history, art, science and technology, economy. As a kind of one-off and especially individual resource, waterlogged archaeological wood is precious and frangible. It has significant society value to protect waterlogged archaeological wood successfully, the protection is not only highly demanded and greatly difficult, but also must be successful for the first experiment. With a view to the request of waterlogged archaeological wood protection and the analysis of the problems about present work, the study idea was presented as following: Polyfunctional group prepolymer with polyethylene glycol (PEG) segment is chosen as protector, which is low molecular weight and contains low volumetric shrinkage rate part. The waterlogged archaeological wood is reinforced by chemical structure remedy as well as by stuffing. The conservation of simulation samples is researched firstly, then the cultural relic. Based on the idea, in this paper, porous structure paulownia was used as "basic template", polyethylene glycol (200) dimethacrylate (PEGDMA-200) was used to conserve and consolidate paulownia. After impregnation, PEGDMA-200 polymerisation was accomplished by 60Co γ-ray. In this way, paulownia/PEGDMA-200 composite was prepared. The influence of vacuity, vacuum time, impregnation time on monomer loading and impregnation deep of "basic template"paulownia/PEGDMA-200 was studied, the relationship of monomer loading and solidify volume shrinkage rate, mechanical properties, press destroy mode, dimensional stability of "basic template"paulownia/PEGDMA-200 was researched, the irradiation dose as function of both conversion rate of PEGDMA-200 and mechanical properties of "basic template" paulownia/ PEGDMA -200 was investigated. Afterward, paulownia was treated to be "realistic template", moisture percentage, gravity, compress strength of "realistic template" were close to waterlogged archaeological wood, and then PEGDMA-200 was used to stabilize "realistic template" paulownia compared with PEG-4000.The results and conclusions showed that:1. Vacuity played a more significant role in monomer loading than vacuum time and impregnation time. Monomer loading increased with increasing vacuity and impregnation...
