Minority journalism is an important part of the entire Chinese journalism. The genuine minority journalism started more than one hundred years ago, but in the extensive meaning, minority journalism exists all the time, from the ancient times to modern times.This article studies the journalism in Xiangxi, and discusses the history of minority journalism before mass communication came into being. Meanwhile, there are nation, era and district characteristics in communication, because of the unique life style of the minorities.The first chapter gives a general view of the communication history of the human beings, and points out the journalism in Xiangxi followed this way. But there's big difference too, due to the geographic position, national characteristics and the minority history.Chapter two to five describe the development of the journalism in Xiangxi in the order of time. There are four periods communication by non-language signals, communication by oral language, communication by characters and mass communication. There are typical cases in every chapter to explain the characteristic of the period. The last section of every chapter gives brief comments and summary of the characteristics of the period and discusses the period's development and historical position.
