Mobile Ad hoc wireless network, named MANET, which has been developed for the requirement of temporary and rapid networking. MANET is a network where nodes can move arbitrarily in the topology. The networks has no given infrastructure and can be set up quickly in any environment.The one of important researching fields of MANET is routing and networking technology. In order to adapt various occasions, researcher has designed many routing protocols.The Optimized Link State Routing protocol, named OLSR, is one of the protocols, which is an improvement of conventional Link State Routing protocol in wire network. Because of it's simplicity, practicality, superiority performance, robustness and good compatibility for working with wire network, OLSR has been certificated as RFC3626 by the MANET WG ( MANET work group ) of IETF ( Internet Engineering Task Force ) already.This study presents the work of designing and implementing the OLSR routing protocol. First, there is a briefly guideline for mainly background knowledge about MANET. Then we will goto the core working principle of OLSR. Based on the analysis of the principle and arithmetic, a soluction of designing and implenting of the OLSR routing protocol will be put forward with the characteristic of target operation system. Finally, we implement the OLSR on the target operation system and network a MANET by the criterion IEEE802.11b.The implementation is done in a modular fashion. It is divided into three layers, VISL ( Virtual Interface Service Layer ), MESL ( Message and Event Schedule Layer ) and RSML ( Routing Service Manage Layer ). And each layer can be divided into some modules by feature.Based on the analysis of the test result, we can find that almost all of the network application can run in gear within a small-scale network where the relay hop count is no more than five hops.
