Among the access techniques of modern optical communications, optical code-division multiple-access (OCDMA) is getting more and more attention than optical time-division multiple-access (OTDMA) or wavelength-division multiple-access (WDMA) for its such good attributes as high security, soft capacity, asynchronous access, convenient network management and etc.. OCDMA is regarded as one of the most potential techniques in the future optical networks, especially in the optical access networks.This thesis mainly discussed the realization of OCDMA system and some network elements after the introduction of the OCDMA key techniques. The main contents are outlined as follows.1. Summarize the development and recent research achievements of Optical CDMA as well as the advantages of OCDMA.2. List and analyze the key techniques of OCDMA: design of address codes, realization of coder and decoder and etc.3. Analyze the performance of OCDMA system, and some system solutions are raised.● One-dimensional spectral OCDMA system (Data rate: 155Mb/s).● One user, two-dimensional wavelength-time OCDMA systems.● A high data rate demo system of OCDMA video transmission.● Two users, two-dimensional wavelength-time OCDMA system.4. Research the OCDMA networks, and solutions to OCDMA-based optical add-drop multiplexer (OADM) element are put up and simulated.5. Introduce some application prospects of OCDMA techniques, including applications in free-space optical links, access networks and etc..
