Optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) is a multiplexing technique taking the advantage of the large bandwidth of fiber and flexibility of code division multiple access. Now it is getting more and more attention, because of its prominent advantages, such as unique confidentiality, scalability, asynchronous access, convenient network management and etc. Meanwhile, OCDMA is considered as one of the most promising techniques in the optical access network of next generation. This thesis based on OCDMA technology and the mainly discussed the OCDMA system and its application in passive optical network. The main contents are outlined as follows:1. Summarize the development and recent research achievements of Optical CDMA as well as the advantages of OCDMA, and its application in access network;2. Propose a new OCDMA scheme based on dispersion matching, which has many advantages, such as low cost, sufficient stability, and more fit for the application of access network and local network;3. Propose a new OCDMA system compatible with DWDM, which could expand system capacity;4. Propose a new OCDMA PON scheme based on the AWG coder and decoder, which has a low loss, and can realize the code reconstruction;5. Introduce the application and development of OCDMA technology in PON, and propose two new schemes:a DWDM compatible OCDMA-PON and OCDMA-TDM-PON.
