| With the development of Flat Plane Display (FPD) industry, more and more measuring equipments are needed for manufactures and sales fields. However, engineers designing FPD lack for an effective evaluation method of Flicker, and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is drafting such a standard. This study focuses on the evaluating and measuring method of FPD flicker. The first part of thesis simply introduces the development of FPD industry, and presents four typical FPD—Liquid Crystal Display(LCD), Plasma Display Plane(PDP), Lighting Emitted Diode(LED), Organic Lighting Emitted Diode(OLED), and the recent researches of flicker are also referred. The basic measurement method of Photometric quantity and the fundamental theory of flicker are presented in the second part of thesis. Some influencing factors of flicker are introduced, and then three recent method of evaluating methods are analyzed.A psychophysical model developed by Farrell is evaluated in the third part of thesis. Farrell model requires photometric measurements to be taken using special equipment, ten participants viewed different display sizes from different eccentricities under different levels of illumination and luminance. In each condition the display's refresh rate was manipulated to determine the critical flicker frequency (CFF). Based on the results of experiments, we refine the coefficients of Farrell model to make sure its application in the FPD flicker measurement. In the forth part of thesis, a measuring system of FPD flicker is designed based on the flash photometer. It is particularly described from hardware and software. The feature of this system is quick response, because high-speed detector , operational amplifiers and AD converter have been applied, and spectrum analysis is applied in the data processing. Finally, the conclusion and future research direction are given. |
