Scannerless Laser Range Image technique is a new range image way. It has simple structure, low cost, high speed and excellent image quality,so can be used in taget recognizing, automatic detecting, monitoring, maping and so on.It has a strong imaging ability.In this paper, we discussed the fundamental principle and schemes of Laser Range Image System(LRIS), and point out the problems to solve in Sample Cumulation method. Based on the principle, we researched Laser Diode' s property used in LRIS from its requirement, and designed a new Laser driver for LD.We also researched the optical translating and receiving in system, gave the way to save optical energy, analyzed the problem using fiber to replace atmosphere as medium, calculated the equivalent length of fiber and researched the basic property of photomultiplier tubes. For ideal Sample Cumulation method has some disadvantages, we optimized Sample Cumulation method, and researched the binary property of photomultiplier tubes. We made some experiments to find the influence of binary property, and ranged using Sample Cumulation method. The result showed that binary photomultiplier tubes could enhance the stability of optical pulse detecting, the linearity of range-Cumulation could be 99. 02%. However, the cut-off property of photomultiplier tubes was not very well, so background light made the range- Cumulation curve go up as a whole, and changed the slope of curve a little,The influence of it could be emendated by analyzing the curve. Finally, we summarized the results of Sample Cumulation method, and give the further development of this range method.
