Interaction is one of the most key features in the environment of virtual reality, so interaction technology has been made a focus in the research of virtual reality. Data glove is a generally applicable method for gesture recognition, and virtual hand technology is provided as a natural and efficient method of human-computer interaction. This paper studies and discusses the fundamental theories and implementations of human-computer interaction technology based on virtual hand.Firstly, this paper discusses the theory of the construction and management of virtual scene graph and studies the topological structure of scene graph. SGI Cosmo3D is applied as software platform responsible for the construction and management of scene graph. Then, this paper focuses on the technology of motion mapping from human hand to virtual hand. It studies the anatomic structure and motion features of human hand and discusses the principles and functions of data glove and positioning tracker. Based on that, the theory and methodology of virtual hand modeling are studied and a scene graph based model of virtual hand is constructed. Gesture recognition of human hand based on data glove and motion mapping from human hand to virtual hand are studied. This paper also discusses and studies the theory and implementation of the grasping operations on virtual objects. The theory and methodology of several types of collision detection engines are discussed. SOLID library is applied as collision detection engine and a set of improved rules are brought out for the decision of virtual object being grasped by virtual hand. Finally, a real-time interaction platform using virtual hand based on data glove is developed under Windows system, using object-oriented concept and C++ language as development tools and 5DT Data Glove 14 Ultra as main input device. The motion mapping from human hand to virtual hand and the grasping on virtual objects byvirtual hand are implemented and the applications to virtual displaying platform of cultural relics are proposed.
