The rapidly growing market share of embedded system nowadays results in the greater market competition. Consequently, we need a new efficient software development method for embedded system. Software component technology is now greatly impacting the traditional software development way, which raises productivity greatly. But the embedded field is still lacking a unified component standard. The research into the embedded software component intends to apply the software component technology to the embedded software development. The huge problem facing the embedded software development is that hardware platform difference makes it difficult to reuse available software modules. Different Software of the same functions needs to be developed repeatedly based on different platforms. The introduction of Component technology to embedded system field can improve software reusability, increase efficiency, reduce difficulty and cut cost. With the background of the work in our project "the construction of area based embedded software development environment" which belongs to National 863 High Tech Program (863 Program), this paper mainly focuses on the research of the embedded component technology, and gives a summary of the research.In this thesis, firstly, we introduce the features of the embedded system in detail;secondly, present the available component models including CORBA, J2EE and COM;then analyze the merits and faults of several embedded component models;finally, design a component model fit for the embedded system development-JECM and detailedly describe the component elements , behavior modeling , components composition, dynamic deploying, permanence and interactivity. At last, an example based on JECM is given.The test of the embedded software component is another important issue of the research of component technology. We also give a design of component-based periodic test method for embedded software.
