Line patrol is very important in telecom, electric power accommodation and petroleum supply. Traditional manual method this fields has many disadvantages such like uncertain introduced by manual factors, unformatted data etc. And the quality of line patrol totally depends on the worker's responsibility. The management system in this area needs being improved by modern technologies.A new type of wireless and embedded instrument of line patrol is presented is this thesis. This instrument can be used in both line and instrument patrol. It provide information of line patrols with time and space. The instrument has the ability of sending Information of line patrol to the central mainframe in real-time. The costs of maintain decrease greatly by using the instrument.The thesis focuses on the design and implement of this instrument. The instrument has 32 bit processor and is based on GSM/GPS. This is very different with the traditional technologies such like PDA plus GPS. The instrument is implemented on Ipc2114 of Philips arm7 series. Combining with FALCOM JP7 GPS module and Siemens TC35i GSM module the instrument achieve the goal of communicating with central processing computer.The main research results include:1,The key technology of GSM and GPS adopted by the embedded instrument of line patrol, introduction of principles and architectures of GSM and GPS, their advantages and application.2, The hardware design of the embedded instrument of line patrol. In this thesis, a solution about the embedded instrument of line patrol is proposed. Hardware environment of Philips LPC2114 32 bit microprocessor is studied. The characteristics of FALCOM JP7 GPS module and Siemens TC35i GSM module are discussed. The combination of LPC2114, FALCOM JP7 GPS module and Siemens TC35i GSM module is discussed in details.3 , A real-time, open source operating system, uC/OS-II, is analyzed. On the basis of understanding its core technologies such like task management, timepiece management, communication between tasks, and synchronization mechanism, its function is expanded.4,The operating system uC/OS-II is reconfigured and is transplanted to the objective board, which is based on LPC2114 processor.5,The design of architecture of firmware, GUI, data structure, communication protocol, and program of the instrument of line patrol are presented in the thesis.
