The self-service business has been currently developing rapidly in China. Bill acceptors are widely used as indispensable parts of various self-service systems. It becomes increasingly difficult to upgrade and maintain vast and scatted bill acceptors conveniently, efficiently and cheaply.In this paper we present a new method of upgrading and diagnozing bill acceptors via the Internet, originate an Internet-based Embedded Devices Remote Control Model (IEDRCM) on the basis of the deep study of the embedded Internet technology and established an Internet-based Multi-currency Bill Acceptor Remote Upgrade and Diagnosis Online System through which bill acceptors can be remotly upgraded and diagnozed with no skilled on-site personal. The overall system is based upon both the Browser/Server (B/S) model and the Client/Server (C/S) model which meets the demand of the current various bill acceptors applications. We use Programming System Device (PSD) in the bill acceptor and realize In-Application Programing (IAP) and fault self-diagnosis in it so as to make its remote upgrade and diagnosis available. We create a multi-threading Server using thread pools that allows multi-clients' concurrent accesses to. We also present an idea of upgrading bill acceptors dynamically with feedback and by stages, an application layer security protocol and multiple authentifiation methods in order to increase the system safety. Particularly we create special ActiveX controls integrating network communication, serial-port communication and encryption together, which give friendly remote operation interfaces, make bill acceptors' sensor graph data displayed automatically and timely, expand a browser's function and enable its timely and mutual communication with a server in B/S model, and especially conceal commercial logic so as to strongly protect the version right of bill acceptors' data and code.The idea of the Internet-based remote upgrade and diagnosis of bill acceptors has broad applicability beyond bill acceptors and provides a reference for the upgrade and diagnosis of other embedded devices.
