With the development of computer graphics and image processing, there is another branch that calls digital art. Computer aided copying technique is a branch of digital art. The development of computer aided copying supplies a platform and brings new methods and tools to the producing of art work. The new technique expands the expression style of art. accelerates the transmission of art. Our works cover:(1) By analyzing the needs of computer aided copying technologies and considering current technologies, a new flow of art copying is presented.(2) Design a computer aided sketch generation system, supply a new platform and bring new methods and tools to the producing the art work.(3) Do some research in key techniques, such as: the sketch image generation, image segmentation and edge detection, construct the model of sketch image. Research and development following techniques:a) Base on traditional algorithm of image segmentation, combined with the character of Dunhuang fresco, put forward a new image segmentation algorithm. Construct the database of Dunhuang color and complete the computer aided coloring algorithm.b) Construct the model of sketch image with the form of xml file. The file record the strokes that with the form of Bezier, and at the same time, we add the artist feature such as the information about the style of the brush, the pressure and the thickness.c) Express the each stroke into a multiple segment Bezier curve, define the simple brush model by ellipse, and get different style strokes with the WACOM graphics tablet.d) We use multiple layers technology and copy the sketch on the layer with the WACOM graphics tablet. Put forward the algorithm of sketch generation by removing hollow lines and do some test on the system.(4) At present, these new computer aided copying techniques have been applies to Dunhuang fresco copying. And we will continue our research on some imperfect features still existing in our work in the future.
