Research And Applications Of Edge Detection Function In Digital Image Processing

Edge detection and contour extraction are very important problems in image segmentation. In this paper, we present several new edge detection functions for gray or color image and make comparisons with the existed edge detection functions. Experimental result shows that the new edge detection functions have advantages in noise image and texture image ,moreover, I also apply the new edge detection functions into the geodesic active contour model, and get the image segmentation result, finally, we take certain edge detection function as the diffusion coefficient of improved Perona-Malik model and get the result of color image segmentation.
