With the rapid development of the computer's hardware and software, a great deal of application needs to cooperate through different networks and different platforms. the traditional C/S architecture shows up lots of questions, such as the weighty burden of client and service, the scalable deficiency, the high expenditure of installation and maintenance and the security deficiency etc. In the environment of distributed calculation, a standard development environment, independent of platform, is demanded in order to make application development easier, the technology of middleware comes up.Middleware is referred as a kind of software that can mask the difference of the operating systems and the network protocols, and provide communicating service for heterogeneous systems. It lies between the network and applications, manages the computing resource and network communication, and provides standard programming interface and protocol for outer. Today, there are some mature middleware products, for example: CORBA of OMG and DCOM of Microsoft, based on which, application can be developed in the distributed environment rather easily. But different application fields have different demands for middleware. The recent emergence of new application areas for middleware, such as embedded systems, real-time systems, and multimedia, imposes challenges that few existing middleware platforms can meet.Electronic commodity trading system is a real-time complex transaction processing system with lots of requests and simultaneous tasks, which needs high capacity of calculation, reliability, robustness and synchronization. Moreover, It also needs real-time transmission ability and security control mechanisms, because of the distribution of trading activity and the sensitivity of trading data. Middleware for commodity trading system should satisfy the attributes of real-time, reliability, security, and efficient transmission of data, etc. Now, the middleware products are short of the comprehensive consideration of the characteristics of electronic commodity trading systems. Considering the special demand of the trading systems, we try to develop a middleware suited for real-time system to satisfy the trading system's performance demands, such as real-time capacity, security, and reliability, etc. which makes use of the techniques of message queue, authentication, digital signature and encryption.Petri Net is a graphical math-modeling tool, which is exceptionally well suited for designing, modeling, analyzing, and evaluating the performance of computer systems that have concurrent, synchronous, distributed, parallel, and stochastic processing features. Our work is to adopt Petri Net models to middleware research area. In this paper, Petri Net is used to describe and analyze the processing procedure of the message-oriented middleware. Finally, the performance of the middleware is tested by experimentation. The result indicates that the middleware can meet the need of reliability and efficiency in this system.
