Today,Virtual Reality has been widely used in the fields such as digital earth ,distance learaing, electric power system, flying simulation and game enjoyment etc. These application need only realistic complex Virtual Environment(VE), but require the user can interact with the virtual scene at immersible frame rate. This paper makes the survey to visualization technology quickly and really of three-dimensional terrain model on the basis of consulting relevant documents. It is mainly to create triangle grid of terrain surface by using DEM(Digital Elevation Model). On the condition ,for simpling the terrain model ,the paper gives a detailed algorithm by takeing gemotry and visual acuity as error criterion to decrease the load of computer. All these .the result will realize the purpose of increasing the scene frame rate.Meanwhile, the paper take a satisfaction function model to carry out quantitative analysis surface of terrain.Besides, the paper do also much work about enhancing the Real-time photorealistic terrain and shadow effect etc. At the same time, process simple analysis for DEM accuracy in practical application .Finally, the paper take advantage of OpenGL function library under Visual C++ 6.0 environment of MFC and realize a three-dimensional virtual terrain visualization simulation platform, whose aim is to practice above technology discussion. The experimentation make know, the method is feasible, vision effect is satisfited with scene frame rate, attain the stated of mutual control of VE(Virtual Environment). But,it is also faultiness on some aspects, which is the emphases of us in the future.
