This dissertation is about the research of congestion controlling andquality-of-service field. With the development of network application,Internet cannot meet the people's requirements now. These requirements, such as VoIP andVOD mostly need the network to guarantee the end-to-end performance.Thenetwork scale is growing biger and biger. It is not enough to control the congestiondepending on end-to-end controlling. The network itself must also play therole.Network routers use queue-management and queue-scheduling to accomplishthis controlling job. This dissertation focused on queue-management.We introduced FRED tosolve the flow-fairness problemRED has some problem in flow-fairness.Weintroduced FRED and realized FRED as a module in Linux Operation System tosolve this problem. But FRED also has some problem,we put forword theadjusting method. The essential concepts of queue-management are introduced in the beginningof this dissertation. An overall description of classical RED and FRED is alsoelaborated as well as the analysis of the QoS module and RED code in LinuxOperation System.Based on that,I gived the details about thedesign, realization, compiling of FRED module.I gave the testing results of FREDin the network. After analyzing that,I made some improvement .In the End,I madea summary of all my work and discussed some possible researching direction.
