Compared with traditional phased array, optically controlling phased array has many advantages. In this dissertation, the features of optically controlling phased array and the development of optically controlling phased array are involved. And the signification and value of studying optically controlling phased array is also mentioned. Optical fibre communication is the foundation of optically controlling phased array. So the development level of optical fibre communication influences the development of optically controlling phased array. The recent progress of optical fibre communication and the configuration of optical fibre communication system are introduced in this dissertation. The feature and realization method for each part of the optical receiving system are discussed in detail so that an optical receiving system with good performance can be obtained for optically controlling phased array. This dissertation contains these materials such as the features and types of optical fibers, the configuration of optical fibre communication system and the merit of optical fibre communication. This dissertation also includes the principles of optical detectors and their electronic properties, and the circuit designing methods for detecting and amplifying RF signal and filtering. Pre-amplifier used in optical receiver is discussed in detail. The performance of pre-amplifier and the classification of pre-amplifying circuit are discussed. The design of L band optical receiver is introduced. The design of S band optical receiver is discussed. Using discrete components to design a pre-amplifier is discussed in detail. The most important processes in this design are the judgement of stability and the means of stabilizing. The design of bias network and match network are very important in the progress of designing pre-amplifier with discrete component. The performance of pre-amplifier is decided by match network and bias network. When one parameter achieves its best value, the other will go worse, this will be considered in this dissertation. The method can also be used in designing amplifiers of other bands. An experimental system of optical receiver in L-band is designed. The performance curves of whole system (include optical emitting system) and the unit circuit containing FET amplifier are shown respectively.
