Based on the wide band of wireless network, wireless telecommunications andmultimedia telecommunications was combined, thus wireless multimedia serviceswas enabled. Wireless multimedia services, especially 3G mobile multimedia serviceshave been widely applied in Korea, Japanese, and some countries in Europe. 3Gservices are going to be applied at our PRC in the next year.Intellectual Property Right (IPR) Issues embarrassed our country's 3G mobilemultimedia services. Video and audio coding is the core technology in multimediafield. But in the popular video coding international standards, such as MPEG andITU-T series standards, our country nearly have no patents in them. To change thisdisadvantageous situation, our country have begun to establish our country's videoand audio coding standards, called Information Technology Advanced Audio andVideo Coding Standards, since the beginning of 2002, and want to push it to be aninternational standard. AVS1.0, which is oriented to high definition digital televisionbroadcast and Compact Disc storage, has been delivered this year. And at the end ofthis year, the final draft of AVS-M, which is oriented to the new generation mobiletelecommunication, have been delivered too.Only after a standard have been spread and applied, it can have life. The workdescribed in this article is aim to spread the AVS-M standard. To show theperformance of AVS-M, and to explore some industrial usage models, we designedand implemented a wireless streaming media prototype demo system, based on thedomestic and overseas wireless streaming media application platform and framework.UML static model and dynamic model are used to describe the design idea. Importantarithmetic are expatiated too.AVS-M reference code WM2.0 was used as the codec in this system. Real timecamera pickup pictures, YUV files and video files coded by AVS-M can be input tothe system. The performance of AVS-M was demonstrated. And wireless sensornetwork was added to this system. Therefore, some new usage models, such asreal-time mobile surveillance was recovered.Key technologies used in the final draft of AVS-M were discussed. Theperformance comparison between AVS-M WM2.0 and H.264 JVT9.0 baseline wasconducted too. A common 3G video application environment and a software testplatform were established based on some domestic and overseas documents and data.A RTP package strategy for AVS-M was proposed, and the feasibility was validatedby the experiment conducted on the software test platform.
