Based On Grating Light Valve (glv) Technology, High-speed Tunable Optical Component Of The Study

Since the DWDM web has a great wavelength volume, multiple wavelengths can be transported in a single fiber, a number of fibers can be saved in this way. So the DWDM technology is applied in the optical communication web more and more now. With the progress of this technique, some request should be met, such as higher speed, lower cost and more flexible control. Following this trend, several optical devices is designed based on grating light valve technology (GLV) in this paper.GLV is a type of novel MEMS devices, which is highly regarded for its high optical efficiency; high switching speed and low manufacture cost. It has been applied in the project and computer plate-making field successfully.Firstly the theoretical calculation is given in this paper based on the material and mechanical characteristics of GLV, including the resonate frequency of the GLV ribbons which can prove the high switching speed; meanwhile the diffraction effect principle when GLV is in the state of grating is given, by calculate the phase error between the ribbons, we get the optical intensity distribution.Based on the elemental characteristics calculation above, the novel device configuration is presented. At first a tunable external-cavity LD structure is designed, which utilizes the easy-controlling advantage and a confocal structure to get a speedy and convenient wavelength selecting, and the tuning range is bigger than 100nm, the output line width is about 5.75*10-6nm. Another device designed based on the GLV is VOA; the operating principle is presented that the intensity of the zero maximum can vary with the displacement of the movable ribbons. When using a 10-bit voltage driver, a 0.03dB attenuating precision can be get and the attenuating range is bigger than 40dB.
