Spaceborne Synthetic Aperature Radar(SAR) simulation is a necessary part in the process of SAR development. It can simulate SAR raw signal to test the performance of SAR system; also, it can test the imaging algorithm and aiding SAR image interpretation. This paper is to carry out a study in this field. Especially it promotes a method based on frequency domain to simulate the SAR raw signal. The main contents of it are as follows:1. We go over the basic theory of Spaceborne SAR. In the traditional solution to the SAR problems, the earth often adopts circular model and the orbit adopts elliptical model. This often brings error to the calculations. This paper presents the models of the elliptical earth and satellite with elliptical orbit.2. We study the algorithm of Spaceborne SAR raw signal generation. A time domain method of SAR raw signal of single point is presented. This method can simulate accurate raw data but it needs a great quantity of calculation. It can not meet the needs when the raw-data of distributed targets are simulated. So, we present a method based on frequency domain for the distributed SAR raw-data simulation.3. The last part of this paper is the results of the simulation experiment. We simulate the raw signal of point target, point array target and extended target respectively. The simulation results show that the methods proposed in this paper are valid, they correctly reflect the characteristics of SAR.
