Bistatic SAR systemes ,whose transmitter and receiver are mounted on different platforms, have some traits and advantages such as:ability to abtain rich information of targets, long operating distance, high security, capability of anti-jam [1] .All these advantages make it hot in international researches in recent years. Results of experiments on bistatic SAR were achieved besides academic researches . In a bistatic SAR system, the complexities of imaging increase because of the multiform working modes.Time synchronization and frequency synchronization introduce phase errors. The platforms'motions are complex and the motion compensation is difficult. All these problems, which make the imaging more difficult than that of a monostatic SAR system occur because of the seperation of its transmitter platform and receiver platform. The problems are discussed in detail as below: 1 The geometry and signal models of bistatic SAR are given. The received signal in time and frequency domain,Doppler center ,Doppler bandwidth, range resolution and azimuth resolution are discussed. 2 Analysises of synchronizations, especially time synchronization and frequency synchronization, are discussed. At first, the sources of time synchronization error are discussed .A time synchronization model is given and the effects of time synchronization error in different forms are given .Ways of time synchronization error compensations are analysed and the simulation results are given. Frequency synchronizaion error, which is modeled, is discussed along with it's effects on the performance. A phase error model,in which the time synchronization error , frequency synchronization error and motion error are considered, reveals the sources of phase errors. This model offers the principle basis of compensation algorithms which will be researched in the future.
