Since the 1990's, there has been extensive research in the area ofhigh performance network architecture. However, that research almostdepends on the conventional hierarchical networking architecture.Although the networking performance could be further improved, theproblems concerned with the inherent limitations of the hierarchicalarchitecture are still difficult to resolve. To overcome such limitationsand improve poor network service efficiency, which is mainly due to theredundant function overlaps between neighbouring layers andcomplicated hierarchical processes existing in the conventionalhierarchical network, by analysing and classifying network services, anovel network architecture called the service unit based networkarchitecture (SUNA) were presented. Service Unit (SU) only providesservices, and does not receive any services, thus it avoids inter-layerinteractions and costs of delivering services. SU provides services forlocal node applications, and SUs of different nodes can also collaborate toprovide services for the entire network or a certain node. Furthermore, theMicro-communication Element System (MCES) is presented for SUNA,which is easy to be transitted from TCP/IP. Micro-communication Systemis constructed of organized Micro-communication Elements which areequal to SUs, and network system consists of many Micro-communicationSystems. MCES is easy to design and implement and has greaterflexibility.MCES is virtual circuit based network architecture. Every node inMCES shapes traffic to avoid congestion. Packets are scheduledaccording to their priority. Therefore, MCES can provide QoS. QoS basedrouting is a routing mechanism under which paths for flows aredetermined based on some knowledge of resource availability in thenetwork as well as the QoS requirement of flows. To design andimplement QoS based routing in MCES is a vital job.This paper illustrates the design of QoS based routing algorithm inMCES, that is mixed metric routing algorithm.
