In automotive field, the value of integrated development tools is increasing. Its functionalities are directly related to application development time and quality. Moreover, the engineers may feel too hard to use handwritten code without these integrated tools. SmartlDE is such a kind of integrated tools for OSEK real time operating system. All the members of SmartlDE have visual interfaces, and some of them can be used for visual programming.SmartlDE is a Visual Environment, which is composed of Visual Programming Tool, RTOS Tracer Tool, Time Analysis Tool and OIL Configuration Tool. The whole toolkit used the newest technologies for references, and add some acute innovations. The final implementation has powerful functionalities as good as the most sophisticated development toolkit all over the world. The main principle of designing is that: use the latest technologies for references, and add some innovations where needed, and then make creative changes when old technologies were not sufficient. Finally we will present a most complete, powerful, practical and convenient stuff.The main work can be generalized as following:Firstly, investigate the status quo of the most advanced OSEK development toolkit and ascertain the requirements for SmartlDE.Secondly, put forward a methodology of designing. Almost all in such flow: "Why to develop such tools"- "How to develop"-"What are the advantages".Thirdly, solve the key technologies, also the difficulties, such as visual action operation and automatic code generation.At last, present the result of testing. As a mature product of IDE, plenty of tests and comparison must be made. The paper will also present the process of two kinds of comparison: to the traditional development flow (vertical comparison), and to the other product of similarity (horizontal comparison).The born of SmartlDE, will bring an evolutionary change to our development fashion. It is the model driven method, which will replace of the object driven method. Thus we can do our design more efficiently and more assured. Meanwhile, the software and hardware test tools can make the IDE further powerful.
